In-depth Look at the Shape-shifting Crest of the AS Roma 22-23 Third Kit
The AS Roma 22-23 third kit is one of the most outstanding designs of the season, featuring a spectacular shape-shifting club crest.
Recently, the company that partnered up with New Balance to create this crest has offered more insight into the design process. Dekographics are one of the best-known brand specializing in heat transfers, based in Sankt-Leon-Rot, Germany.
The company has worked on a countless number of kits, providing custom applications for things like club and brand logos, sleeve patches or player printing. Their extensive list of partners includes the likes of Adidas, Puma, Jako and Hummel - Jako's recent kits, for example, have been applauded for their outstanding logo applications.
As explained by Dekographics, New Balance were looking for "something outstanding" for the execution of the club logo on the Roma 2022-2023 third kit. Specifically, the logo should help elevate the design from a simple football shirt to a "high-spec collector's item".
Dozens of the many different options offered by Dekographics were evaluated before settling on "Lentex heat transfer", which allows for the trademark shape-shifting look. Lentex uses a lenticular printing process to combine two or more images that appear visible depending on the perspective the logo is being looked at.
For the Roma shirt, which is inspired by the club's journey throughout its rich history to the modern day, the classic ASR emblem appears at first while the modern club crest can be seen upon closer closer inspection.
