Forbidden by UEFA? Player Version of Roma 22-23 Third Kit Features No Shape-Shifting Logo
New Balance created two versions of the AS Roma 2022-2023 third kit, possibly because of Equipment Regulations.
Logos Included? UEFA Equipment Regulations Ban Material That Change Appearance Under Any External Influence
The standout feature of the AS Roma 22-23 third kit is a shape-shifting logo ("double reflection image"). Depending on the angle from which you look at it, it shows the ASR logo or the classic crest with the she-wolf.
However, the shape-shifting logo was only applied to the replica version by New Balance. The authentic (called Elite) comes with a standard ASR crest that does not change its appearance at all.
The reason for the two different versions might be UEFA Equipment Regulations (Article 8.04).

As per Article 8.04 of the official UEFA Equipment Regulations, material that is "reflective or changes its color under any external influence (pressure, light, water, etc.)" is forbidden.
UEFA Equipment Regulations, Article 8.04: No material used in the construction of playing attire may be reflective or change its color or appearance under any external influence (pressure, light, water, etc.). This includes material used for numbers, player names, sponsors, or charity logos.

However, UEFA do not mention logos in Article 8.04. Last season, Barcelona were allowed to have iridescent logos but not iridescent seams. We have no info if UEFA/Serie A disallowed Roma to have the shape-shifting crest of if New Balance decided to put it on the replica version only.
