Nike Destroys Adidas in 2017 Ballon d'Or Boots Battle
- Brand Dominance: Nike sponsored the majority of the 2017 Ballon d'Or nominees with 18 players, significantly more than Adidas (9 players) and Puma (2 players).
- Top Players: The top three finishers in the 2017 Ballon d'Or were sponsored by Nike (1st and 3rd) and Adidas (2nd), indicating success does not necessarily align with brand popularity.
- Popular Boot Silos: Among the players, Nike's Mercurial series and Adidas' X series were the most popular boot silos, particularly among attacking players.
Update: France Football this evening announced the ranking of the 2017 Ballon d'Or. Seven of the Top 10 players are sponsored by Nike, while just two players are wearing Adidas boots. Buffon (Puma) made it on the fourth place (Manuel Neuer was not even amongst the nominees...). In total 18 of the 30 nominees are sponsored by Nike (Adidas: 9, Puma: 2)

2017 Ballon d'Or Nominees - Football Boot Brands & Silos
Nike dominates the battle for the world's best players sponsoring 18 of the 30 footballers nominated for the award. Adidas follows second with nine players under contract, while two players are wearing Puma boots (Buffon & Griezmann).

If we look at the boot silos, it is eye-catching that most players are wearing Adidas' and Nike's speed soccer boots (Nike Mercurial: 10 & Adidas X: 7). This is both because these are the most popular boot silos among players in Europe's Top 5 leagues and because the 2017 Ballon d'Or nominees include many strikers.
