Nike Air Max Mercurial R9 Boots Released

The brand-new Nike Air Max Mercurial R9 draw inspiration from the iconic 1998 Mercurial cleats, paying tribute to Brazil's legendary Ronaldo.

While the most famous paint job of the first-ever Nike Mercurial generation is definitely the silver, blue and yellow one Ronaldo wore in the 1998 World Cup, less people know that Nike originally launched the Nike Mercurial silo with a black, silver and red colorway. And even though the understated paint job may be not as remarkable as the bold World Cup Edition, it's a cleat that should not miss in any Nike Mercurial boot time line.

Nike Air Max Mercurial R9 - Anthracite / Metallic Silver

This is the Nike Air Max Edition of the first-ever Nike Mercurial sneaker.

Boasting the design of the original Nike Mercurial Ronaldo 1998 Boots, the Nike Air Max Mercurial R9 shoe takes many things from the black and silver colorway released back then. However, as the Nike Air Max is just a sneaker, the street edition of the Nike Mercurial R9 Boots comes without cleats but has a Nike Air Max midsole.

As the technologies used for the boots are not really interesting for us, let's continue to talk a bit about the design. Whereas the original boot worn by Ronaldo featured a red tongue, the Nike Air Max R9 Tribute Edition comes with a stunning metallic silver tongue. Nike also changed the color of Swoosh from white to black.

Retailing at £100, the black and white Nike Air Max Mercurial R9 sneakers are already available to buy from various stockists.
