Adidas Favorites to Sign Aston Villa?
Aston Villa are set to leave Castore early after quality issues with their kits. We take a look at which brands could be the club's next kit maker.
Castore will supply Aston Villa's kits until at least the end of the current 23-24 season
First and most importantly, Castore will supply Aston Villa's kits until at least the end of the current 23-24 season. Castore are not only working on a long-term solution to remedy Villa’s shirts for the remainder of the campaign, but are also examining whether there are any short-term options for the men’s and women’s teams for this weekend’s games.
Aston Villa's co-owner also own shares in Adidas
According to a report from Telegraph Sport, there have been talks about ending Aston Villa's contract with Castore, which was supposed to last for multiple years, at the end of the current season. These discussions are centered on finding a solution that works for both parties and are not necessarily related to the recent problems with this season's shirts, which have put more pressure on the British sportswear company.
Possible New Aston Villa Kit Makers
While there is much speculation, there is currently no concrete information or official reports about who the new Aston Villa kit makers will be. We evaluate the different options and how likely each is (there are many).
Current Premier League kit makers - via Football Kit Archive
Adidas - Possibility 25%
Villa's co-owner, Nassef Sawiris, has a 6% stake in no others than Adidas. This has led to speculation that the Midlands club may consider a transition from Castore to Adidas, similar to the move made by Newcastle.
Adidas x Aston Villa seems to be the most likely option as of today.
Nike - Possibility 10%
Nike currently supply three big Premier League clubs plus Brighton. Footy Headline think it is very unlikely that the Swoosh could Aston Villa as it would have virtually zero impact for Nike to add a medium team.
Puma - Possibility 10%
Puma currently only supply one Premier League club, Manchester City. Adding Aston Villa to their portfolio could be a logical move from the cat.
Macron - Possibility 5%
Macron are known for their high-quality football kits. In contrast to many other brands, Macron do not have authentic and replica kits - all of their kits are authentic ones.
Mizuno - Possibility 4%
Mizuno reentered the (bigger) European football market by supplying Lazio, Augsburg and Bochum. Adding a Premier League team could have a big positive impact for the Japanese brand which is known for their high-quality Japanese-made football boots.
Joma - Possibility 4%
Joma currently do not supply any Premier League team. They last were present in the 2021-22 season as Norwich's kit maker. Signing a deal with a club as big as Aston Villa seems unlikely.
Kappa - Possibility 4%
Kappa are the brand with the best kit designs for many in the 23-24 season. They made Aston Villa's before Castore took over in 2022 - a return would be certainly welcomed by many fans, even though their tight kits raised some concerns (they also offer standard fit shirts, so this should be no problem).
Reebok - Possibility 1%
Reebok have been not active in the football market for several years but recently celebrated their comeback with deals with Botafogo and the Panama national team.
Hummel - Possibility 5%
After their UK license holder went bankrupt, Hummel lost many important teams from the UK. A deal with Aston Villa could help them to retake space in the UK, even though it could be expensive.
Skechers - Possibility 1%
Skechers have not made any football kits yet, so a deal with Aston Villa would be a first. It seems highly unlikely, however, that Aston Villa would take any experiments with a "new" player in the game after their problems with Castore.
Castore - Possibility 15%
With all the negative reports about Castore's Villa kits, it seems extremely unlikely that the British brand will stay the team's kit maker. But you never know.
Other Brands - Umbro, New Balance, Lotto, Kipsta - Possibility 15%
From the other brands out there, Umbro and New Balance seem to most plausible candidates. A shocking deal would be Decathlon brand Kipsta to take over the deal.
