Bogus Rumors: Chelsea Will NOT Sign Nintendo Deal
Update: Chelsea have followed up the initial post with more short videos, this time featuring other 1990s electronics - the Playstation 1 as well as a classic Nokia phone. This makes it even more clear that the earlier post was not about Nintendo but rather a teaser for the upcoming launch of the Chelsea 23-24 home kit.
Chelsea Football Club have teased fans with a video ahead of their kit reveal for the upcoming season, featuring Nintendo prominently. Are they set to sign a deal with the iconic Japanese video game company? Certainly not.
Chelsea are in need of a new sponsor for their shirts. The Premier League previously blocked a deal with Paramount+ due to broadcast partner rules, and rumors of a potential partnership with Stake.com have circulated but ultimately not singed after fan protests.
Chelsea Post Video of Nintendo
The video released by Chelsea on the new platform Thread shows a Nintendo Game Boy running a game with a lion and a football, symbols closely associated with the club. The video ends with the message "it's a 90s thing".
Mock-up - won't happen
Thanks to @TheyThinkKits for the mock-up
Footy Headlines are pretty sure that Nintendo won't become Chelsea's kit sponsor. Instead, the video just hints that new Chelsea 2023-2024 kit will be inspired by the 1990s and the 1997-99 Home kit in particular.
We expect the new Chelsea 2023-2024 home kit to be launched very soon, likely without a sponsor.
