Grealish Story - From Nike Tattered Boots to Million Pound Puma Contract

Manchester City’s attacker, Jack Grealish has just signed a big boots deal with Puma which officially ended his previous long-term relationship with Nike. Grealish’s boots switch from the American brand also sparks many old stories the English international had with the company, notably his completely tattered Nike Hypervenom Phantom.

Grealish Wore Torn Nike Boots at Aston Villa

The English international’s tattered boots incident happened a while back when he was still playing with Aston Villa. That situation caught many people's attention as he was wearing his completely torn cleats in Villa’s Championship play-offs final victory against Derby County back on May 27, 2019.

However, Grealish’s torn boots didn’t actually trigger the player’s decision to switch gears as he actually explains the reason for it. In the interview with the media, the versatile attacker reveals that his Nike Hypervenom cleats were torn apart simply because he kept using the same pairs from late February until that final date, considering it as his lucky boots.

Grealish pretty much started his relationship with Nike from his early professional days, including the time when he was still playing at Aston Villa. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop him from eventually ending that adventure for a new one with Puma.

Grealish to Earn the Highest Boots Deal for a UK Player Following Puma Swith

A couple of days ago, Grealish pretty much confirmed what many have already known about his switch from Nike to the German-based sports manufacturer. However, the reason it’s unlikely is because of his 2019 tattered boots incident but most likely due to Puma making a much better offer.

According to reports, Grealish deal with Puma, which is set until 2028, will earn him the highest boot deal for a UK athlete. The 27-year-old reportedly could be earning up to £10m per season, which will beat Harry Kane, whose contract with Nike are worth around £4m per season.

Grealish is set to represent the German sports manufacturer by wearing their Puma Future Ultimate football boots. Following his 100m transfer move from Villa to Man City, the creative player has become a very attractive magnet for brands as he has also signed endorsement deals with Gucci, Bose headphones, and Airwayz among others.

The Man City's star has actually debuted his Puma Future Ultimate cleats in his team's Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest back in February 18 and has been wearing them since. Officially becoming Puma's ambassador means that Grealish is joining other top names in World football such as Antoine Griezmann and Neymar.
