Atletico Madrid Sign WhaleFin Main Shirt Sponsor Deal - First Look At 22-23 Kits With Sponsor

Update: Atletico Madrid officially announced that WhaleFin, a digital asset platform powered by the Amber Group, become Atletico's new main sponsor for the next 5 seasons. With it, the look of the WhaleFin logo on Atlético's 2022-2023 home, away, and goalkeeper kits was revealed.

The Atletico Madrid Amber Group main sponsor deal is worth a total of 210 million Euro in the five years (42 million Euro/season), more than double the 17 million Euro a year agreement with trading platform Plus500.

The CEO of Atlético de Madrid, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, has highlighted the importance of this link. "Today is a relevant day for the future of Atlético de Madrid, as we join forces with a global company that is a leader in the digital sector. This association aligns with our desire to evolve digitally, thereby being able to offer more and better services and experiences to our fans."

Atlético Madrid are the latest club to sign a sponsorship deal with a crpyto currency firm. According to Bein Sports, the club have signed a 5 year deal with digital investing firm WhaleFin, whose logo will appear on los Colchoneros shirts starting from the 22-23 season.

WhaleFin to Become Atlético Madrid's New Shirt Sponsor

WhaleFin was founded in 2017 by the directors of banking heavyweights Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Bloomberg, and is based in Hong Kong. The company is currently valued at €2853 million, so it's no wonder they can pay for such big sponsorship deals.

The contract with WhaleFin reported to be worth €42 million a season and will run for five years, bringing in €210 million in total, making it the biggest sponsorship deal Atlético have ever signed.

Atlético's current sponsor, Plus500, have had their logo emblazoned across their jerseys for the last seven seasons, starting back in 2015. That deal expires in June of this year and the club are now ready for the next partnership.

We have created two mock-ups showing the Whalefin logo on Atético's upcoming home shirt. It is likely that the real shirt will see the logo placed in a box to create a break in the stripes and allow for increased visibility.

The trend of football clubs partnering with crypto companies shows no signs of slowing down. As long as they continue to offer such vast sums of money in exchange for advertising space, it is very doubtful that clubs will let any ethical questions or moral dilemmas get in the way of such large profits.
