Impact Montreal Fan Groups Join Forces To Protest Against Name & Logo Change
On January 14 2021, Canadian MLS team Montreal Impact unveiled an all-new identity, club name and logo. Now the supporters of the club have sent a letter to the club to share their view on the rebranding.
Impact Montreal was rebranded as Club de Foot Montréal instead of Montreal Impact.
Impact Montreal Fan Groups Sends Letter To Club About Rebrand
According to the letter published, all the supporter groups of Impact Montréal came together to write and sign a letter about the team's recent rebranding.
We are fundamentally and vehemently opposed to this identity change
As described in the letter, the fans were "shocked and appalled to learn that you have erased the name of our club, its colours and its logo. Our position is that the repositioning of our club's brand and identity not only tramples its history, but also attracts ridicule given the visuals chosen. We are fundamentally and vehemently opposed to this identity change, which in our opinion, doesn't at all represent us."
The supporters also say that "no supporter group was ever consulted", in contrast to media news suggesting that.
each signatory will take a series of actions against the new club branding
The letter concludes with the announcement that "each signatory of the present statement [...] will take a series of actions until you reconsider your decision and that the name of Impact de Montréal is restored".
We expect the first "Club de Foot Montréal" kits with the new logo to be revealed very soon, nevertheless.
