Crystal Palace Jokes On New Chelsea Third Kit

The new Chelsea 2020-21 third kit was not really liked by the club supporters. However, it even got a bit worse with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace joking about Chelsea's new Nike kit, which is actually inspired by Air Max.

“The Air Max coupled with football jersey culture is the ultimate hybrid of streetwear and sports,” says Nike Scott Munson VP, Nike Football Apparel. “We were mindful of paying full respect to the clubs and their identities, but we quickly discovered that this is a very happy marriage. The kits are stylish, highly original and will look great on the pitch and the street.”

Crystal Palace's stadium (south of London) is located less than 10 miles from Chelsea's Stamford Bridge (West London).

Chelsea FC 20-21 Third Kit Inspired By Air Max 180 & 1990s Kits

The new Chelsea 20-21 third kit boasts a bold design in red, blue and white (officially ember glow & ultramarine blue). It is a color combo that has less to do with Chelsea, so the marketing slogan "Its A L̶o̶n̶d̶o̶n̶ Chelsea Thing" is pretty inappropriate.

Of course, the Chelsea 20-21 third shirt is not inspired by Crystal Palace's kits. Instead, its colors and design draw inspiration "by the kits of the 1990s and the Air Max 180".

"Chelsea’s new third kit has a distinct ’90s vibe, with colors and design reminiscent of the jerseys of that era. The original Nike Air Max 180 was also leaving a footprint on the streets of London around that time, and this kit effortlessly marries the two together. The combination of ultramarine, ember glow and white references vintage Chelsea away kits and the classic colorway of the OG 180."

Nike is using the "It's a C̶I̶T̶Y̶ TEAM Thing" for all of their major 2020-21 kits.
