Original article - 11 April 2019: As per English media reports this evening, Nike and Liverpool are in advanced talks regarding a sponsorship deal that would see the US brand take over from New Balance in time for the 2020-21 season.
Liverpool's current deal with New Balance runs until the end of the 19-20 season, i.e. next, and is reportedly worth £45m annually.
ESPNFC state that Liverpool are close to reaching an agreement with Nike. The new Liverpool Nike kit deal would be "expected to exceed the value of Manchester United's £750million agreement with Adidas and become the biggest ever struck by a Premier League club".
Also reported in the story, New Balance have a "matching clause", which would allow the brand to match any offer of another brand and continue as Liverpool kit producer. It's far from certain that New Balance are ready to pay as much as Nike are reportedly putting on the table.
Reports earlier this year had stated that Liverpool were in talks with New Balance, but also open to offers from other brands such as Adidas, Nike or Puma.
Liverpool have been with New Balance since the start of the 15-16 season, having previously worn kits produced by the US brand's Warrior sub-brand.
