BVB's Mats Hummels Again Cuts Holes in Adidas Copa Boots

Update: Mats Hummels, who famously returned to Borussia Dortmund this summer, has again cut a hole into the front of his right boot. Hummels debuted the customized Adidas Copa 19.1 'Virtuoso Pack' boots in his club's first pre-season friendly against FC Schweinberg. Let us find out about his reasoning.

Both of Hummels' boots featured a remarkable hole in the toe box area in the Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund. However, as the German defender explained in an interview why he cut holes in his cleats, we do not have to speculate why he has done it.

"I can not put a lot of pressure on the big toes because they're both blue. They're just a bit broken at the moment, so I hope it will regenerate next week," said Hummels after the 3-1 victory at the BVB.

Apart from the holes in the boot, Hummels' Adidas Ace cleats are the same as the standard Adidas Ace 17.1 leather cleats from the Pyro Storm collection.

Interestingly, Mats Hummels is not the first players to be spotted with holes in his boots as Liverpool's Coutinho famously cut a big hole in the heel area of his Nike Mercurial Vapor XI boots some weeks ago.
