Ronaldo Trains in Blackout Next-Gen Nike Mercurial Superfly 2018 World Cup Boots

Update: We have added a much better high-quality picture of the next-generation Nike Mercurial Superfly VI 2018 World Cup boots worn by Cristiano Ronaldo in training in early October 2017, reavealing that the upper structure is totally different to the current-gen Nike Mercurial Superfly. Currently with the Portuguese national team, Cristiano Ronaldo had the honor to give the upcoming Nike Mercurial Superfly 6 boots a first spin out on the training pitch this week. And there's something in it for us as well: many new high-quality pictures of the high-end version of the next-gen Mercurials, which are set for a release in March or April next year.

What stands out foremost about the Superfly VI is the collar, which has a completely redesigned shape, with peaks at the front and heel and a generally lower cut. At the moment, Ronaldo is wearing the boots in the default setup, although it remains to be seen whether Nike will supply him with a custom, even lower collar, as it's been the case with all Superflys since 2014 for him.

Moving on from the collar, although it's difficult to spot on the blackouts, the upper of the Nike Mercurial Superfly 6 football boots is set to change as well, taking cues from what the Swoosh did with the recently introduced Flyknit Ultra model.

Generally, the upper of the blackouts worn by CR7 has a distinct, leather-like look to it, something that we'll make sure to keep an eye on for the future.

All of this is built on top of a sole plate that isn't altogether different from the previous generation, although there are some differences.

The Nike Mercurial Superfly 6 Elite soccer cleats will be released in March or April next year, in time for the World Cup which will be held in Russia between June 14 and July 15.
