Banco Santander Becomes New La Liga Naming Sponsor
Spanish bank Santander was today confirmed as new name sponsor of the Spanish football league, replacing another bank in BBVA. The new La Liga Santader logo as well as the official 2016-17 La Liga ball were also unveiled at the event at Santander's Madrid headquarters.
La Liga to Be Known as La Liga Santander
This is the (possibly temporary) new La Liga Santander logo, next to the old Liga BBVA one.
Having only recently unveiled a slightly updated visual identity and new 'La Liga' and 'La Liga 2' names, the first and second Spanish divisions will be known as 'LaLiga Santander' and 'LaLiga 1|2|3', respectively. The name of the second division derives from the name of a customer account the bank is offering, called 'Santander 1 2 3'.
Reportedly winning the bidding against the likes of Samsung an a unnamed Gulf airline, rumored to be Qatar Airways, Santander will sponsor the self-proclaimed 'Best League of the World' for three years.
