Everton FC today announced a deal with Umbro to be the club's shirt supplier for five years starting with the 2014-15 season. Umbro who already equipped Everton during several periods between 1974 and 2009 are following on Nike, who produced the Everton kits in the current and the last season.
Umbro was bought by Nike, which took over almost all of their sponsorship deals with teams, in 2007 and sold to Iconix Brand Group in 2012, and is slowly making its way back in the football world. Umbro already closed a deal with French team Nantes to become their shirt sponsor in late 2013, but the news about Everton tells the world the famous double diamond is back in business.
Everton To Receive Unique 2014-15 Kits by Umbro
The deal will officially start on June 1 and the new Everton 2014-15 Umbro Home Kit will be released in July 2014, while release dates for the Everton 14-15 Away and possibly Third Kits are yet to be detailed.
“Everton fans can expect smart, modern and importantly, unique kits next season.”, said Paul Nugent, VP of Global Marketing at Umbro, possibly hinting at the club's discontent of the kits made by Nike in the last two seasons. Different clubs accross Europe have voiced their unhappyness with Nike's often similar kits for different teams and also explained new kit supplier deals with it.
