European Football's €1.8 Billion Kit & Merchandising Boom Continues: Real Madrid Leads as Adidas Dominates Manufacturer Market

Real Madrid generated a staggering €196 million in kit and merchandising revenue. This impressive figure places Los Blancos firmly at the summit of football's retail hierarchy, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich tied for second at €171 million each.

The comprehensive data shows a clear hierarchy among European football's elite clubs, with Liverpool and Manchester United (both €146 million) completing the top five. Arsenal follows with €120 million, while Tottenham (€95 million) and Chelsea (€96 million) represent additional Premier League strength in the top 10.

Record Growth and Market Concentration

The report reveals unprecedented growth in the merchandising sector, with top 20 clubs increasing their kit and merchandising revenues by 26% in 2024, while kit manufacturer deals grew by 6%. This combined €1.8 billion revenue stream highlights football's expanding global commercial appeal.

Particularly noteworthy is the stark financial disparity between top clubs and those lower in the ranking. Roma, sitting 20th, generates just €27 million – a mere 14% of Real Madrid's merchandising income. This financial polarization mirrors the wider revenue gap in European football, with the data showing a €300 million+ difference between the 8th and 11th highest-revenue clubs.

In a separate but related trend, betting and gambling companies have emerged as the dominant shirt sponsors across Europe's top leagues, representing 15% of all main shirt sponsors. This trend is particularly pronounced in certain countries, with betting firms accounting for the majority of shirt sponsors in Greece (92%), Russia (54%), and Poland (73%).

The report also reveals that sponsor stability is relatively high, with 73% of main shirt sponsors remaining unchanged from 2023 to 2024. Additionally, 68% of sponsors are domestic companies from the same country as the club, while 84% come from UEFA nations.
