Antoine Griezmann to Join Decathlon - Wears 65 Euro Boots
Update: Antoine Griezmann has ended his long-standing boot deal with Puma. Now, the French forward has again worn a blackout version of the very affordable Decathlon Kipsta CLR boots against Real Madrid.
The Decathlon Kipsta CLR soccer boots retail for just 65 Euros, which makes them significantly cheaper than the premium 200 Euro models from Adidas, Nike, and Puma. Griezmann's decision to switch to the budget-friendly brand has surprised many, but Footy Headlines is sure that the Frenchman gets paid a massive amount by the French brand Decathlon, possibly even more than what Puma paid.
Update August 2024: Confirming our leak, Griezmann has ditched the Puma Ultra and switched to Decathlon's new blackout boots, implicitly confirming rumors he's joining the brand.
The blackout boots Griezmann is wearing are Decathlon CLR boots - a speed shoe silo from Decathlon. If he joins Decathlon, Griezmann could become an ambassador for this shoe silo.
Update: French sporting goods giants are in the pole position to sign French national team captain Antonie Griezmann, according to Foot Mercato. Decathlon have signed a few big deals recently, Decathlon including one for the Ligue 1 ball and one for the Europa League and Conference League (from next season).
Decathlon currently offer two high-end football boot silos - the Viralto IV and the CLR Elite (available at affordable prices of 80 Euro).
According to Foot Mercato, Antoine Griezmann is set to leave Puma, his boot supplier since 2010.
Griezmann to Leave Puma
Antoine Griezmann is reportedly set to leave Puma at the end of the season. There is no word yet on whether the Atletico Madrid forward will sign a new contract with another sports brand or not.
Of course, the rumor that Griezmann wants to leave Puma is quite surprising. He is one of the elite ambassadors of Puma Ultra boot - Puma's main speed silo.
Griezmann and Puma have been together for more than 14 years (since 2010), since Griezmann was a young player.
Coincidentally, the French sports brand Kipsta (owned by Decathlon) has announced that it will be outfitting a major French international footballer. It seems that Griezmann will be joining Decathlon at the end of this season.
Signing a player of Antoine Griezmann's caliber would certainly be the right move for Kipsta, allowing them to gradually enter the football boot market, just like Skechers signed Harry Kane.
We can make a few predictions: Griezmann joining Nike seems impossible, as Nike is letting go of many big players and only keeping top stars like Haaland and Mbappe. A move to Adidas or smaller sports brands such as New Balance or Skechers would make more sense.
