Premier League Summer series logo leaked
In their never-ending quest for growth (and money), the Premier League will organise a pre-season tournament in the USA this summer, titled the Premier League Summer Series. Six Premier League clubs will take part in the eight-day marketing initiative, playing three games apiece. We have obtained images of the logo that will be used at the tournament, which you can see below.
It consists of the regular PL lion's head logo over a circular backdrop that reworks the stars and stripes of the American flag, coloured in a mix of purple and orange tones. The propaganda merchants certainly know their audience. The logo will likely appear on the sleeves of the player's kits as well as on all promotional materials.
The Premier League Summer Series aims to increase the league's following in the extremely lucrative American market. They want to present a mix of familiarity and discovery to hook new fans, introducing them to sides like Fulham, Brighton and Brentford while also showcasing some bigger names. Newcastle and Aston villa may be a bit more recognisable to US spectators, but the Premier league made sure to include one of the big boys to maximise the tournament's appeal.
They may well be regretting their decision to send relegation candidates Chelsea as their prize pig, whose current brand of football is literally the worst advertisement for the self-proclaimed "Best League in the World" that they could have chosen. In the unlikely - but still possible - event that Todd Boehly's band of disinterested individuals do drop down a division at the end of the season, all of the Premier League's carefully considered branding would be rendered factually incorrect.
What do you think of the PL's Summer Series logo? Do you think the tournament will achieve its objectives?
