What If? Retro Nike Logo On Current Season Kits
After Nike's use of a retro 70s logo on special kits for AIK and Young Boys, @footpack have applied the same look to the current shirts of some of Nike's biggest teams.
Nike Kits With Retro Logo
Remakes of, throwbacks and references to kits of years gone by are a tried and tested way to boost interest in new shirts and increase sales. For AIK's special shirts both last year and this year, as well as Young Boys' recent 125th anniversary shirt, Nike went down a slightly different route by using a version of their logo created in 1971. The first ever incarnation of the now universally recognised Swoosh, this version had cursive, lower case Nike text laid over the top, with just the outline of the Swoosh present.
By the time they started making football kits in 1979, they had already updated their logo to the "Futura" edition - which was also brought back a couple of years ago for the third kits of some elite Nike clubs - so the AIK shirt last year was the first appearance of the 1971 logo on a jersey. Using it was a nod to Nike's own branding history rather than anything linked specifically to football.
Nonetheless, it certainly did the job in terms of adding a retro touch to the AIK and Young Boys shirts. Our French counterparts @footpack have edited the photos below to show that same version of the logo on some of Nike's current season home kits.
