Serie A Introduce Quite Insane New Kit Rules

Italian Serie A have made an unexpected Christmas gift by releasing their updated equipment regulations.

Since the current 2022-2023 season, green kits are already banned in Serie A. The newly released Serie A Equipment Regulations will come into effect 2023-24 season and will become mandatory from the 2024-25 season.

New Serie A 2023 Equipment Regulations - Mandatory From 2024-25 Season

The new Serie A 2023 Equipment Regulations include several new, stricter paragraphs.

The new rules become mandatory from the 2024-25 season

The main reason for the new Serie A Equipment Regulations is television but also to reduce administrative things. For example, green kits became invisible due to the use of virtual ad boards.

1. Serie A Teams Are Only Allowed to Have One Striped Kit

One of the most strange new rules is that teams are only allowed to have one striped kit. This means that Milan, Juventus & Inter can only have a striped away/third kit if they remove the stripes of the home kit.

2. Serie A Teams Must Have One Kit With Same-Colored Shirt, Shorts & Socks

This rule is called monochrome regulation. Each team need at least one kit (away or third) that use the same color for the shirt, shorts, and socks.

3. Serie A Teams Need Dark/Light or Light/Dark Home & Away Kits

The third important new rule is very similar to FIFA's most important Equipment Regulation - we call it the "Light/Dark Rule". If the home uniform is light, the away kit will be required to be dark, and vice versa.

4. Serie A Limit Number of Colors and Designs

If the home shirt is striped, checkered, or has some other special designs, the away shirt cannot have any of these colors, except for details.

Another important point is the fact that if a uniform has more than three colors, one must necessarily be predominant in the shirt, in the shorts, and in the socks, with the other two colors being clearly secondary.

5. Serie A Teams Need At Least Three Keeper Kits

This rule just seems logical. Teams must ensure that goalkeepers have three different options to avoid collisions.

Conclusion

The new Serie A rules surely reduce the amount of work for league administrators and referees. Some rules like those of the keeper kits have only advantages, but there are also some confusing regulations, and also come that are not needed.

The rule for the ban of which green is banned is unclear

Which color can a Juventus away kit have if the home is black/white stripes (Light/Dark Rule)? Can Clubs Have a Striped Kit with very similar colors (e.g. Inter 20-21 third)?

It also has to be noted that Serie A never published which shades of greens are banned. Milan were allowed to have a military green kit - many expected that such colors would be forbidden.

As already mentioned in the beginning, the new Serie A rules will come into effect from 2023-24 and are mandatory from 2024-25.
