Manchester City Women's Stop Wearing White Shorts to Avoid Discomfort During Menstruation
Manchester City's Women stop wearing white shorts with immediate effect, in order to prevent their players from feeling uncomfortable during menstruation.
Arsenal, Manchester United, and Real Madrid could follow suit
The news was announced in a statement made in conjunction with Puma, the team's sporting goods supplier. Originally, it was intended to stop wearing white shorts from the 2023-2024 season, but the club "have worked alongside manufacturers Puma to bring the switch into immediate effect".
The team was first wearing the new shorts in Wednesday’s 6-0 Continental Cup win over Blackburn.
"Puma and Manchester City are proud to work closely with our female players to support them and create the best possible environment for them to feel comfortable and perform at the highest level. As a result of feedback from female players and the underlying topic of women wanting to stop wearing white shorts during menstruation, we have decided to implement changes to the products we offer our players," the statement said.
City are not the first in the United Kingdom to implement this change. Stoke City, West Bromwich and Scotland's Livingston have already decided to change the color of their shorts to make their players less uncomfortable during their menstrual period.
Women's teams who are still wearing white shorts with the home kits include Arsenal, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.
