Feyenoord Captain Refuses to Wear Pride Captain Armband

Orkun Kökçü Does Not Want To Wear Pride Captain Armband
Orkun Kökçü claims that his religious beliefs clash with wearing the 'One Love' captain armband. However, the Turkish midfielder also says that everybody can make their own choices based on their own beliefs, and hopes that his own decision will be respected as well.
In the end, Austrian defender Gernot Trauner wore the 'One Love' captain armband for the game against AZ Alkmaar. OneLove campaign promotes diversity, inclusion and anti-discrimination in football.
Everyone is free to do what they want or feel
“I have decided not to wear the rainbow captain's armband for this round of play. I think it is important to emphasize that I respect everyone regardless of religion, background or preference. I believe that everyone is free to do what they want or feel. I fully understand the importance of this action, but because of my religious beliefs I don't feel the right person to support this.”
“That's why I don't feel comfortable wearing this captain's armband. I can imagine some people are disappointed with this. That is absolutely not my intention, although I realize that I may not immediately be able to take away that feeling with these words. But I hope my religious choice is respected as well,” says Turkish midfielder Orkun Kökçü.
