Official: Mainz Leave Kappa for Jako in 23-24 - Deal Ended Early
Update - June 1, 2022: As first reported on by German news outlets, Mainz and Jako have confirmed they will be partnering up for the 2023-24 season. Both sides have agreed to a 5-year deal until 2028.
Original: We have some slightly unexpected kit news from the Bundesliga as Mainz are reported to be joining Jako for the 2023-24 season.
Mainz Sign With Jako
Mainz only joined Kappa back in 2020, signing a contract until 2025. However, Kicker reports that the deal has terminated and will end early, the two parties are splitting up in the summer of 2023.
Nothing is known as to why Mainz are leaving Kappa earlier than planned, but the reason is likely not of a financial nature. Neither Mainz nor Kappa have commented on the news.
Jako will be taking over from the Italian brand, paying a similar amount with about 1 million Euros a year. The new partnership is planned to run for five years, until 2028.
As was the case with both Kappa and previous kit supplier, Lotto, Mainz 05 will continue to receive fully bespoke sets of kits.
Kappa have already released their last Mainz home kit, with the away kit already having been voted on by fans, and the third shirt yet to be revealed.
