The Solution to Chelsea's Sponsor Problem? Argentinian Side Cover Up Logo
With Chelsea’s troubles with the Three logo on their shirts getting quite a lot of attention here recently, we have another botched sponsor removal story to bring you, this time from Argentina. Take a look at the attempt made by the Club Atlético Nueva Chicago to hide the chest and back sponsors on their away shirt in Monday’s game against Agropecuario in the Primera B Nacional (Argentina’s second division)
Club Atlético Nueva Chicago Cover Sponsor Logo
As you can see from the photos, the cover up was not exactly a roaring success. In the close-up photos, the logo of LN Seguros can clearly be seen through the semi-transparent white patch that was placed over it. The green and black brushstroke graphic didn’t provide the best background for the patch to go unnoticed, with its borders clearly visible thanks to how it interrupts the shirt’s design.
To be fair to the kitman, in the more distant photos the patch does an almost passable job. Chelsea could learn a thing or two from this technique.
Subtle? No. Effective? Kind of.
Sponsorless home kit worn in the club's previous match
Interestingly, Club Atlético Nueva Chicago managed to remove the sponsor logo from their home shirt in the previous game, or more likely, had access to some home shirts that had not yet had the logo applied.
Home and away shirts featuring sponsor logos earlier in the season
It is unclear what the reason was for covering the sponsor, as the Primera B Nacional season only started about five weeks ago and the sponsor logo appeared on the club’s jerseys for the first three matchdays. Puzzling, as it would be strange for a club’s sponsorship contract not to run parallel to the league season.
