Leverkusen Announce Sleeve Sponsor Deal With Meme Cryptocurrency Floki - Previous Sleeve Sponsor History After Just 5 Months
Bayer Leverkusen recently changed their sleeve sponsor. Iqoniq, who had a three-year contract that started this summer, are replaced by Floki two and a half years ahead of the usual end of the contract.
Leverkusen's New Sleeve Sponsor Until Summer 2022
Floki is a company that run a meme cryptocurrency. It will be the first time a German team has had such a sponsor on one of their shirts.
Floki and Bayer signed a deal until the end of the 2021-22 season.
It is unknown why Iqoniq is no longer a sponsor even though their original deal would have seen them depart in the summer of 2024 at the earliest.

The deal between Leverkusen and Floki means the cryptocurrency will not only feature on Bayer's sleeve in the Bundesliga, but also in the Europa League. The sponsorship goes even farther beyond that, with Floki set to appear in the BayArena, on interview boards as well as on the club's training grounds.

Floki reasoned that the Bundesliga is the football league with the highest average attendance worldwide (without Covid 19), and that upwards of 6 million Germans watch the live broadcast every weekend, with many more viewers outside of Germany.
In their first match with the new crypto sleeve sponsor, Leverkusen absolutely thrashed promoted side Greuther Fürth, winning 7:1.
Floki's logo could also already be seen during Bayer's post-match press conference. This is probably the fastest new mid-season sponsor deal the Bundesliga has ever seen.
