9 November 2021: Teams Not Allowed to Wear Away Kits At Home By Premier League to Raise Awareness Of Homeless

Premier League teams won't wear their away kits at home on Boxing Day to raise funds and awareness for homeless charity Shelter, it has been revealed by the Sportsmail.

Charity For Homeless People Wanted Teams to Wear Away Kits At Home to Raise Awareness Of Homeless

Shelter, the homeless charity, wanted to raise awareness using Boxing Day fixtures. Their idea was that Premier League home kits would wear their away kits on Boxing Day in a bid to raise funds and awareness for people without a home.

Shelter want to make the festive fixtures ‘the annual event where football fights homelessness’

Shelter contacted the Premier League teams playing at home on December 26 to join the cause but the initiative has been refused by the Premier League.

It is understood that the request contravenes Premier League rules which state that 'the first priority for home clubs will be their home strip'.

A Premier League spokesperson said: 'The Premier League receives a large number of requests from charities every season however we aren’t able to support all centrally. Clubs area entitled to support charitable causes, and we encourage clubs to do so, provided it is in compliance with Premier League rules.'

Some Premier League Teams Fight For The Idea

Meanwhile, the EFL, the government body of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th divisions, have "not raised any objections" against the initiative and the plan of wearing away kits at home.

However, there is still a chance Premier League teams will wear their away kit at home on Boxing Day. It is understood Spurs are querying whether the Premier League is within its rights to block the move.
