McDonald's Trolls Liverpool Third Kit
Liverpool's new Nike 2021-2022 third kit has been mocked since ever the first pictures were leaked. Now, after the official release, McDonald's joined the party.
Nike's Liverpool 21-22 uniform does feature red checkered detailing. What makes a comparison to McDonald's more obvious is the red and white background featured in the promotional photographs.
Liverpool 21-22 Third Kit Evokes Memories Of Fast Food Chains
In a Tweet, McDonald's asked where Liverpool got their new top, and where they got it. The Tweet ended with the acronym, "IYKYK" (if you know, you know).
The shirt also reminded people of the fast-food restaurant Five Guys. The American fast-casual restaurant mocked Liverpool with a Tweet showing off a Five Guys shirt as well as socks with some checkered elements.
Of course, the LFC 21-22 third kit is not inspired by fast-food chains. The red-and-yellow chequered trim on the collar is inspired by the chequered flags of European nights, while the yellow and red color scheme is inspired by the 1981-84 away jersey.
“The red-and-yellow chequered trim on the collar is inspired by the passion and energy of the Kop and the chequered flags that first illuminated the Reds’ end of the stadium at the 1977 European Cup final, which then set a precedent for all future big European nights. The subtle pinstripes highlight the tight bond between the club and its community.”
