January 2021: Jack Grealish Explains Why He Is Wearing His Socks As Low

If you watched some Premier League matches of Aston Villa this season, you surely have noticed that Jack Grealish is wearing some extraordinary small socks and shin guards - now the England Attacking Midfielder has explained to "Birmingham Live" why he is wearing his socks so low.

Jack Grealish Wears Low Socks & Shinguards Because Of Superstition & To Help Him Moving More Freely

Grealish is wearing his socks so low because of two things - superstition and to be able to move more freely.

"Obviously your socks are supposed to go above your calves. But one year when I was here, the socks once shrunk in the wash. So they wouldn’t go higher. That season, I ended up playing really well. So it became a superstitious thing for me. I thought ‘I’m going to keep doing this because I’ve done well’."

His shin guards are described as ‘teenage’ shin pads by a source close to the player

His shin guards are also very small. They’re described as ‘teenage’ shin pads by a source close to the player.

Previously, there had been rumors that Grealish wears his socks so low after watching footage of Man Utd legend George Best, who was famous for having his socks around the angles. However, that is not the reason.

There was speculation that George Best would be the reason

"A lot of people say that it’s because of George Best. While I love him and admire so much what he did, that isn’t the reason."

Grealish also said that he won't wear his socks high or changing the guards:

"It's a superstition that I've done all my life and I'm going to keep it that way. A few referees have tried telling me but I've got to keep it like that."
