Dispute Continues: Zlatan Ibrahimović Calls Out EA Sports for Using His Image Rights Without Mutual Consent

Update: Since we last covered this story Ibrahimovic has made more accusations. Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes that the responsible organisations do not own him but owe him. Since this controversy gained a lot of traction, video game publisher EA Sports addressed the issue by explaining their perspective. Check out the events in chronological order below.

Update: Ibra is not the only one affected. Gareth Bale just joined the conversation and also seems to be left in the dark regarding this issue. Check out his tweet and the original article below.

Yesterday, Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimović added another brace to his goal tally for this season, which brings his total Serie A goals to 10 in 6 games. AC Milan overcame SSC Napoli 3-1 away from home against his former teammate who is now a coach, Gennaro Gattuso (2010-2012 both played together for AC Milan).

Unfortunately, Zlatan picked up a hamstring injury during the later stages of the game that will make him unavailable for at least ten days. Apparently, Ibra is using his free time to play computer games as he suddenly made aggressive statements towards EA Sports and their game FIFA 21 today since he did not give them the permission to use his image within the game.

“Who gave FIFA EA Sport permission to use my name and face? I’m not aware to be a member of Fifpro and if I am I was put there without any real knowledge through some weird manouver. And for sure I never allowed @FIFAcom or Fifpro to make money using me”

“Somebody is making profit on my name and face without any agreement all these years. Time to investigate.”

It is nothing new that football players are unsatisfied with video game publisher EA Sports. However, most of these conflicts are about more harmless topics such as their ratings or visual appearance within the game.
