AS Roma To Partly Bring Back Old Logo Starting Next Season

In August 2020, we reported that a group of Roma supporters want the club to revert back the 2013 logo change after the owner who introduced the change has sold the club. Roma’s new owners, Dan and Ryan Friedkin, have reportedly accepted the request to bring back one of the club’s old crests.

Friedkin Group completed its takeover of AS Roma in August, paying a reported USD 700 million for James Pallotta's shares. Pallotta was the president who unveiled the new 2013 Roma crest without consulting any of the supporters - many did not like the change from the acronym “ASR” to the word “Roma” below the depiction of the Lupa Capitolina and Romulus and Remus.

AS Roma To Use Old Crest On Away Kits Only?

As reported by Italian sports newspapers La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Spor, the Giallorossi have decided to bring back the old “ASR” crest, which was used from 1997 until 2013. The decision was taken following a meeting between Roma CEO Guido Fienga and members of the Curva Sud, including lawyer Lorenzo Contucci,

Roma will not totally revert to the old logo

However, Roma will not totally revert to the old logo. Instead, AS Roma will use the old crest beginning next season (2021-22) on their away shirts.
