OFFICIAL: Borussia Dortmund Announce 1&1 Deal - Two Shirt Sponsors Next Season

Confirming reports from last night, Borussia Dortmund this morning announced a brand-new main sponsor to replace Evonik, at least in Bundesliga matches.

It's telecommunications company 1&1 that will replace the chemicals company.

"We are absolutely delighted that, in 1&1, we have gained an additional leading business as a shirt sponsor. Everyone in the partnership is looking forward to going down the path of shared success," says Borussia Dortmund's chief executive office, Hans-Joachim Watzke, going on to add: "For us, today represents a milestone in the economic and, thus, sporting development of BVB."

But while there would be a new sponsor in the Bundesliga, Evonik will continue to sponsor the club in the Champions League, as well as international friendly matches and the domestic cup, in order to continue growing awareness for its brand internationally.

Ralph Dommermuth, founder of 1&1 and CEO of its parent company, United Internet AG, states: "[...] Our collaboration with the club will go far beyond the boundaries of a traditional sponsorship deal. Together, we will develop new means of engaging interesting new target groups in the long term, with a particular focus placed on social media and digital content."

Evonik, who are also the club's largest shareholder and own 14.78% of the club, hope to enable to club to substantially improve its financial situation through this move.

In total, the 1&1 and Evonik Dortmund jersey sponsorship deals, which will both run until 30 June 2025, will pay up to €40 million per season, or €200 million over the next five years.

And thankfully, while 1&1 employ a blue-and-white color scheme, the same as Dortmund's main rivals Schalke, the logo will appear in black and white on the Dortmund 20-21 kits.

BVB managing director Carsten Cramer: "the company's logo on the players' chests, which [...] will be displayed in a black and white colour scheme."
