Atlético to Bring Back Old Crest for 21-22 Kit
Atletico Madrid fans will be happy to hear that the club are set to bring back the club's iconic old logo in the 21-22 season.
Specifically, one of their jerseys that season, which Nike has already begun to work on, will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the club being named "Club Atlético de Madrid". The other Atlético Madrid 2021-22 kits will not feature the classic crest.
"In this sense, Nike is already working on the designs following the indications of the club," said the club in a statement issued yesterday afternoon.
This also puts to rest the rumors that started to circulate earlier this year about Puma trying to replace Nike as Atletico's official supplier. As the Nike deal runs until 2026, this was always seen as a difficult undertaking.
Atlético Madrid received their current name in 1947. The club was previously linked with the Spanish Air Force and played under the name "Atletico Aviación de Madrid".
The 1947 shield is the one that was used up until December 2016, when the current, more minimal design was unveiled. Many of the club's supporters were not happy with that change and would like to see the old badge return on a more regular basis.
Let's hear your thoughts on Atletico bringing back the old badge in the comments below.
