Inter Milan 1990 Away Jersey - Inspiration For Inter Milan 2019-20 Home Kit
The design of the new Nike Inter Milan 2019-2020 away jersey takes inspiration from the classic away kit the Nerazzurri wore during the 1989-90 season. It was made by German brand Uhlsport, who had been Internazionale's kit maker for just three years, between 1988 and 1991.
“Inter has an incredible home identity, so the challenge was to execute their iconic stripes in a modern and disruptive way, while also respecting their rich tradition,” said Pete Hoppins, Nike Football Apparel Senior Design Director. “We looked back at the iconic diagonal stripes used on the away jersey in 1989 as well as the old club crest and it led us to this very classic design with a break of diagonal stripes across the chest.”
The Uhlsport Inter Milan shirt was worn by legendary players such as German midfielder Lothar Matthäus, whose matchworn kit is pictured above. Inter Milan won the 1988-89 Serie A title wearing Uhlsport kits - it was their first triumph since 1980 and their last before 2006-07.
