Maradona and Konami Sign Sponsorship Deal
Reports from Argentina state that video game producer Konami and Diego Armando Maradona have reached an extrajudicial agreement regarding their image rights issue.
Maradona last month accused Konami of having used his likeness in PES 2017 without his consent. It appears that he was at least partly in the right as Konami reportedly agreed to pay him in exchange for not going ahead with the lawsuit.
Mauricio D'Alessandro, a lawyer for Maradona, stated that Konami argued that the FC Barcelona license it holds entitles it to use the image rights of former players of the club, such as Maradona.
Maradona Becomes PES Brand Ambassador
Despite the strict secrecy about the terms of the agreement reached between Konami and Maradona, the Argentinian press is reporting that a sponsorship and licensing contract was signed until 2020. Said partnership is set to even include the promotion of PES by Maradona in what is quite a turn of events.
At least a part of the money that Maradona will receive as part of this agreement will be used to aid grassroots soccer in Argentina, which is something the legendary Number 10 already announced prior to the latest developments.
