Who Should Become The New Face of The Nike Hypervenom Boot
With Neymar switching back to the Nike Mercurial boots in 2017, the question arises who will become the new face of Nike's agility boot. And while it is not certain yet when exactly Neymar will switch to the Mercurial (most likely with the launch of the next-gen Nike Hypervenom Phantom III), we already forecast who will be the new main face of the soccer cleat.
There was a similar case in 2015 when FC Barcelona midfielder and Nike Magista cover athlete Iniesta switched to the low-cut Nike Magista cleats after he launched the all-new high-cut control silo ahead of the 2014 World Cup. Back then, Nike reacted quickly with Mario Götze becoming the new face of the Nike Magista cleats.
Will There Be a New Nike Hypervenom Cover Athlete At All?
We think that it is most likely that Lewandowski will become the new cover athlete of the Nike Hypervenom.
A search using Football Boots DB reveals that the choice is not extremely extensive but offers several player who would be a good replacement, even though nobody reaches the popularity of Neymar. The most important high-profile players who wear the Nike Hypervenom Phantom II boots are Lewandowski, Aubameyang, Cavani, Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck, while Rooney and Kane opt for the low-cut Nike Hypervenom Phinish and are therefore no good cover stars for the boot.
Robert Lewandowski is likely the best player wearing the Nike Hypervenom boot featuring the Dynamic Fit collar, and he would be anything but a poor replacement. However, as he is not as popular as Neymar, it is also well possible that there won't be a new main face but several cover athletes promoting the Nike Hypervenom, as it's the case with the Nike Tiempo.
