Blackout Next-Gen Nike Magista Obra Neymar Boots Revealed

Update: The first high-res picture of Neymar's blackout prototype boot emerged. While it was previously not certain that Neymar really trained in the next-gen Nike Magista Obra, it is now practically sure that his boots are a prototype of the second-gen control boot. And even more interestingly, his boots also slightly differ from the first leaked next-gen Nike Magista Obra paint job (thicker strings within the upper).

Having already worn prototypes of the second-generation Nike Magista Obra football boots back in August, FC Barcelona's Neymar returned to the unreleased Nike control cleats in today's training.

The second generation of the Nike Magista soccer boots will be launched after Euro 2016 in a vibrant Volt color job. Drawing inspiration from both the first-gen Nike Magista boots, as well as from the original Nike Hypervenom, the Nike Magista Obra II introduces a totally new upper and an all-new sole plate.

Although they are completely blacked-out, the boots Neymar was spotted wearing today are most likely a prototype of the upcoming Nike Magista Obra II cleats. Slated for a July 2016 launch, the Nike Magista Obra 2 boots were already worn by the Barcelona and Brazil superstar last summer.

Just as last time, Neymar's blackout Nike Magista Obra II cleats appear to include a Nike Tiempo sole plate, while the final Nike Magista Obra 2 football boots will of course feature a new sole plate with a different, interesting stud alignment.

But will Neymar really swap the Hypervenom for the Magista?

One question remains nonetheless: Do these play-tests mean Neymar will pick up the Nike Magista for real come the launch of the second gen? With current Magista face Mario Götze stuck in a supporting role at Bayern, having Neymar promote the all-new Nike Magista Obra II boots would definitely make sense on paper. The likes of Robert Lewandowski, Jamie Vardy and Edinson Cavani would probably make more than adequate flag carriers for the Hypervenom.

For all we know, Nike is planning to launch yet another Nike Hypervenom Neymar signature boot in August. Although this does not rule out a possible later switch, it could also be that Neymar was only chosen to try the new Nike Magista boots due to their clear Hypervenom influence.
