Southampton Signs Under Armour Kit Deal
Premier League team Southampton and Under Armour today confirmed the earlier rumors and announced a new long-term kit and apparel deal, set to commence with the 2016-17 season.
Southampton Joins Under Armour
Southampton has become the second Premier League team to be sponsored by Under Armour, after Tottenham Hotspur. No financial details of the Southampton Under Armour jersey deal have been disclosed as of now, but expect it to be worth slightly more than Southampton's previous Adidas deal. The new Southampton Under Armour jersey deal runs for an initial seven years, until 2023.
Under Armour will replace Adidas as Southampton kit supplier after three years. The relationship between the club and the Three Stripes has been rocky, evidenced by the club opting to produce its kits in-house in the 2014-15 season, before resuming the initial agreement in 2015-16.
Both Southampton and Under Armour voiced their happiness about the agreement, with Saints chairman Ralph Krueger saying: “Under Armour shares similar values to us in that they achieve success through a combination of hard work and strategic thinking. “At Southampton, our determination to succeed is accompanied by a commitment to develop athletes as people, and this partnership reflects this.”
Peter Murray, Vice President of Global Sports Marketing at Under Armour, said: “Southampton FC, like Under Armour, is humble and hungry. They are an institution with strong core values based on a pioneering attitude. “The club’s commitment to developing and improving players at every level continues to set a benchmark in the sport.”
The first-ever Under Armour Southampton home and away kits are expected to be unveiled in early July, shortly after the beginning of the new partnership.
