Nike is set to release a football boot utilizing the new Nike Flyweave technology as early as next year. Flyweave saw its debut in 2014 and has successfully been used in basketball, golf, American football and training shoes.

Nike Flyknit was first used in running shoes in 2012 and was subsequently introduced to the football world with the launch of the Nike Magista Obra and Nike Mercurial Superfly boots ahead of the 2014 World Cup. Both Nike Magista and Nike Mercurial cleats also brought the all-new Dynamic Fit collar, which is now also used in the Nike Hypervenom silo with the release of the Nike Hypervenom Phantom II.
While Flyknit is based on the traditional process of knitting, Flyweave originates from weaving, a process that, in combination with computer-aided engineering and advanced materials, makes for stronger and more intricate fabric than knitting. Additionally, Flyweave, like Flyknit allows for supportive cushioning or Flywire strings to be integrated into the upper structure for improved strength.
"Flyweave offers us an amazing technical advantage in basketball to create incredible strength with a precise, comfortable fit," said Leo Chang, Nike Basketball’s Footwear Design Director. "We have some exciting news on the way and the response from athletes has even exceeded our expectations."
