Four Brands Want Chile Kit Deal
Adidas, Nike, Puma and Under Armour reportedly all made offers to become the new shirt sponsor of the Chile national team, set to start after the Copa America in Chile this summer.
Interestingly, Puma is amongst the bidders following the controversy over the Chile kit deal which included accusations about the allegedly low quality of the Puma gear and delays in its delivery. Chile supposedly hoped to be able to get out of the contract early to sign a new deal already before the lucrative home tournament.
Under Armour meanwhile is looking to improve its standing in the football world and already sponsors one of Chile's biggest club teams in Colo-Colo.
Who will become the new Chile shirt sponsor?
Current shirt supplier Puma has been paying around $3 million per year for the Chile shirts since it became the official Chile shirt sponsor in 2011, following on US-brand Brooks Sports.
The Football Federation of Chile (ANFP) hopes to at least double the amount generated during the time of the Puma deal and raise around $30 million for the full 2018 World Cup campaign, including the final tournament in Russia.
With all candidates having submitted offers, the Chilean football federation is expected to make the final decision within the next weeks.
