Nike or Adidas? Who Will Become Germany's New Kit Supplier?

"Nike has a real chance to become the new kit supplier of the German national football team."

The president of the German Football Association Wolfgang Niersbach stated in an interview with the German magazine Sponsors that the German Football Federation is set to open negotiations for a record-breaking kit deal.

Update 05/03/2015 - 15:30 GMT: "Our existing contract with the German Football Association runs until the end of 2018. Therefore, it is much too early to speculate about a renewal. Of course, we want to continue our successful partnership. Adidas and the DFB belong together," said Adidas CEO Hainer on Thursday.

In 2007, the German Football Association signed a 11-year kit deal with Adidas worth €250m until 2018. Reports back then stated that arch rival Nike offered almost twice as much as Adidas. Nevertheless, the German Football Association opted for their long-term kit supplier Adidas, which caused a controversial debate.

Germany's Adidas kit deal expires in 2018

The current Adidas kit deal with the German National Football team will expire after the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and was signed back in 2007.

"The lead times to design a new collection are very important in the equipment area. Having worked closely with Adidas for years, we will talk with Adidas firstly. Of course, Nike has a fair chance to become Germany's new kit supplier, but there may also be other companies who want to become our new kit supplier," said the president of the German Football Association, Wolfgang Niersbach.
