Happy Birthday, Mesut | Özil's Unique Boot History
Mesut Özil celebrates his 28th birthday today. Mesut Özil's Boot Brands - From Adidas to Nike and Again to Adidas
Here are some of the boots worn by Özil during his career.
Mesut Özil started his senior career almost ten years ago at Schalke 04 (sponsored by Adidas) wearing both Adidas' F50 Adizero and Predator boots, while he soon and controversially switched the club and the boots.
When he joined Schalke rivals Werder Bremen, he signed a contract with Nike until December 2012 and started to wear Nike's Mercurial boots, which he used for several years.
Mesut Özil Joins Adidas in Multi-Million Euro Deal
However, in Summer 2013, rumors emerged that Mesut Özil would leave Nike and join Adidas after he laced up in whiteout Adizero boots. And those rumors were soon confirmed as he signed a mega deal with Adidas worth up to 25 million Euro over eight years, becoming a face of the Adidas Predator.
Mesut Özil First Player to Wear Laceless Boots
In terms of football boots after rejoining Adidas, Mesut Özil's boots were anything but extraordinary. He wore Adidas' Predator cleat for three years, while he made the switch to the Ace after Adidas discontinued the Predator line in 2015. In early 2016, however, it was the first time that Mesut Özil really wrote boot history as he became the first player to wear Adidas' (Updated as it was Lotto who released the first-ever laceless boots) laceless football boots.
Still a quite young player, but already a very interesting boot timeline. Do you think Mesut Özil will wear Adidas boots until the end of his career? Let us know in the comments below.
